Important note: The statements made in this paragraph about the cover provided by Flip insurance for accidental injuries and the amount of benefits payable relate to the Flip Active product dated 31 May 2023. That product was withdrawn and replaced with the new Flip Active product on 27 June 2023, which has a different scope of cover for accidental injuries. These statements do not describe the scope of cover under that new product. Please refer to the current Product Disclosure Statement for details of that cover.

Why did you partner with Flip?

The risk of injury is absolutely there at our racing events. We make the courses as safe as possible and have full medical on-site, but once athletes leave, they may need follow-up treatment and can end up out of pocket. We've always had personal accident insurance as part of our deal and work hard to ensure our racers get the most benefits possible.

We swapped to Flip because it’s a good service for us, and it’s great for our customers. Having a strategic partnership gives cross-promotion opportunities, and the Flip systems are just so simple. With other insurers, it's been a very difficult process for people to claim, which has been laborious for our team. With Flip, it’s all done through the app and we don’t need to get involved.

How have you integrated Flip Group Active at your events?

We’ve had five events this year and we’ve included the Flip fee as part of the registration. It's become a key part of our athlete wellbeing strategy and offering a safe and enjoyable experience.

We promote Flip as part of the deal before, during and after the event. We get athletes to sign up for the app so if anything happens, they can easily claim. It’s a point of difference for us because a lot of events don’t operate with proper accident insurance. Our athletes appreciate that we’ve put this in place to better care for them. They respect that our business is supported by strong companies with excellent service.

Would you recommend Flip Group Active to other sporting organisations?

Absolutely. I would 100% encourage everybody to get involved. People doing your sport will inevitably get injured, and this helps protect them. The cost is negligible, and it's such a great benefit for the athletes.

Spartan Race Participant
Spartan Race included Flip’s injury cover as part of the entry fee. When I hurt my ankle during the race, I was stoked because I had cover without having to think about it. I was surprised how smooth and fast it all was. Submitting a claim was straightforward, and I got $200 cash within a day or two. It helped cover everyday expenses while I got back on my feet.

Why did you partner with Flip?

In skateboarding and action sports in general, there isn’t a huge focus on athlete wellbeing. More people are doing it professionally and there’s a lot of risk and downtime with injury.

I saw Flip’s injury insurance in an advertisement and contacted the Flip team because I wanted to change the way we approach athlete welfare. Working with Flip was about covering people at events rather than leaving them stranded with a waiver form. The team at Flip has the same mentality around wellbeing, so we have a synergy and our partnership has been hugely productive and positive.

How has Flip Group Active helped your customers and your business?

Injuries are a part of skateboarding, and they want to push hard at competitions and extend themselves. When they do get injured, they might fall six feet onto concrete. So, while it's rare, it can be pretty punishing. Having cover gives the competitors the confidence to come to our events and push harder because they know they have support to help recover if something goes wrong.

For us, this is another way to show we’re leaders and a well-oiled machine to attract more participants. We want the best people competing and putting on a great show. It’s important for us to support them during downtime and quickly get them back on their board. This is one of the things we've put in place to improve the landscape for skateboarders. Knowing we're actively trying to improve the wellbeing of skateboarders gets a lot of respect in the community.

Would you recommend Flip Group Active to other sporting organisations?

We really want to get all the other organisers using it so that we have this safety net in Australia. We don't want someone to go to another event where they sign a waiver and bust their ankle and then can't come to our event.

Flip has the right staff that understand the needs of the sport, the product’s good, it’s cost-effective and it helps people. You can be a leader and help your athletes without breaking the bank. It's a no-brainer from our end.
